The American Psychiatric Association (APA) is committed to eliminating mental health inequities. As part of this work, each July we celebrate Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month through the APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health Initiative.

APA’s Division of Diversity & Health Equity will hold its 3rd annual APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health Community Fair in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University’s Mary and Frances Youth Center. Join us for a day full of sharing mental health resources, connecting and networking with family fun, free food, games, music and prizes.

Mental Health Community Fair Objectives

  • Increase awareness about mental health issues experienced by underrepresented groups and dispel mental health misinformation through the lenses of practicing psychiatrists, advocates, and other mental health workers
  • Provide education on steps individuals and families can take to promote mental health
  • Increase access to resources that support the holistic needs of individuals experiencing mental illness and substance use disorders
  • Share about APA's existing resources that support involvement in the care of families, friends and loved ones, as well as resources that increase access to care
